Right you are, but being a bit obssesive when it comes to dealing with Mexican bureaucracies, I tend to also keep a copy of the paperwork, wrapped in a ziplocked plastic bag, in my glove compartment.

I was actually stopped once at a hacienda roadblock in Nueva Italia and asked for the paperwork and my visa document. The person at the roadblock was in a hacienda-marked vehicle and had hacienda ID. It surprised me! But I happened to have everything. I've kept it with the truck since then.
